A good diet and psoriasis management go hand in hand. As if you didn’t know. Beware of those miracle diets on the internet, and take everything you come across with a pinch of salt. It’s understandable that we feel frustrated about our psoriasis, however, don’t forget that there are no shortcuts when it comes to a good diet for psoriasis. Remember that a healthy and balanced diet can improve your well-being with psoriasis.
So today I’ll be sharing with you some things we should eat more of to help with psoriasis.
Eat dark leafy greens since they are packed with antioxidants, help protect your body against inflammation, and may even ease psoriasis symptoms.
Add fish to your diet plan because you need all that omega 3 fatty acid goodness. It not only helps boost your immune system but also protects against inflammation. Also, these healthy fatty acids help protect you against heart disease which is considered major psoriasis comorbidity. So eat up that fish my friends!
Olive oil is the oil you should use for cooking. It contains omega 3 fatty acids and has anti-inflammatory properties.
Whenever you feel like satisfying your sweet cravings, pick up that fruit bowl. I’m telling you, it’s the best decision you can make for your health. Vitamins, antioxidants, and fiber. What else do you need?
Good old beans are a great healthy food option for us folks with psoriasis. Besides being a great source of protein they also contain antioxidants and fiber.
Nuts, I like to think of nuts as inflammation-fighting magic pods. Add them to your diet and see the magic for yourself. However, make sure you don’t gobble up too many of those babies. Gotta keep your calories in check too!
Add spices and herbs to your foods, especially the ones that have proven benefits for heart health like cinnamon.
And what are the things we should be avoiding (imagine a little red flag on top).
Okay, so the number one thing you should cut down on if you’re living with psoriasis is…
You guessed it right! SUGAR!
Sugar worsens inflammation and increases your risk of heart disease and don’t even get me started on the weight gain part. So skip those fizzy drinks and go for water instead. Try to curb your sweet tooth with fruit instead of going for the candy jar or that slice of chocolate cake. Phew! Easier said than done.
But you can totally do it my fella psoriasis warriors!
Eat less fried foods because duh they can worsen inflammation and lead to weight gain. Cut out red meat from your diet because RED MEAT is one huge inflammation trigger when it comes to psoriasis.
Here are some things that can cause flare-ups and you need to quit ASAP!
Say goodbye to alcohol! I mean it. You’re going to thank me for this one.
Avoid junk food as much as you can! Dairy products are again something we have to steer clear of because they contain arachidonic acid. Inflammation Alert!
Remember, we’re in this together and we can live a good life with psoriasis! So take the decision to make those dietary changes that will help you in the future.
